The DIYI had it's AGM on Saturday 12th of June 2010.  It followed a backbend workshop where DIYI teachers and teacher trainees had a chance to teach a posture to their peers. Both events were a great success. The workshop was based on a class given by Gitaji in Pune and I think was enjoyed by all. The AGM was very productive. We got plenty of suggestions for updating our website and developing our online identity. The current committee of Helen Arnold, Beccy Cameron, Annette Cahill and Eileen Cameron agreed to continue for another year.

Apologies: David Rabinowicz, Aisling Guirke, Miriam Brady, Dominique Baikoff,Bernie Connors, Sandra Murphy,Sara Morrissey.

1. Minutes of Previous Meeting: Minutes of the last AGM were read  in full and as there were no matters arising  the minutes were formally adopted.

4. Chairperson's Report: Eileen thanked everyone for attending after a very enjoyable Backbend Workshop at the new iYoga Centre in Phibsboro. She reminded everyone that it was that it was our second AGM after another very successful year.

It was also DIYI's second DIYI Workshop day and we intend to arrange more in the future keeping the cost to members at a minimum just to cover costs.

Eileen reported that the Workshop  with visiting teacher from Mumbai, Zubin Zarthoshtimanesh, was a resounding success with participant satisfaction at a very high level.

Jawahar Bangera (also from Mumbai) is to be the visiting teacher at next year's IYA(UK) convention and DIYI hope to invite him to teach a Workshop in Dublin also at that time.

Other proposed teachers for next year include senior teachers Katie Rutherford from Edinburgh and Bobby Clennell who is coming to Europe and may teach here in March.

Eileen reported that DIYI's funds are ok so it was hoped that in view of this and the economic recession that membership fees would be kept to a minimum for another year.

The website is up and running with a Calender of events,a list of Iyengar Yoga teachers, a mobile phone number for texting queries and a news site and Eileen invited suggestions for improvement of the website. Melanie Taylor and her daughter are helping to set up  a Facebook page for DIYI which will be more interactive and it is hoped that DIYI members will have more of a say day-to-day.

5.Treasurers Report: Annette reported that DIYI's finances were very healthy at the moment due to subscriptions received (€2680) and the excellent attendance at Zubin's

workshop (€7772).After all Outgoings were deducted, as of 11/06/2010 the Balance is €3785.59.

6. Membership Secretary's Report: Beccy was pleased to announce that DIYI  has 69 members to date.

She explained that all members of DIYI are automatically members of IYA(UK) but that IYA(UK) are having problems with their database so DIYI names may not appear on it immediately. She proposes to email all DIYI members to confirm that they have received

the next issue of the IYA(UK) magazine and from that correct any omissions from the IYA(UK) database.

Renewal of membership will be in January of each year to be paid before the end of March.

Fees for next year were then discussed by all and it was agreed by all to leave the membership fee at €20 for next year. This would enable DIYI to support visiting UK teachers, hold some free events and have some funds in reserve.

It was then explained that when all the planned Institutes in Ireland have sufficient numbers then each Institute can put forward a representative to the Executive Council of the IYA(UK) who will then replace the current Irish representatives Aisling Guirke and Eileen Cameron.

7. Suggestions for Website: There followed a long and detailed discussion on how to improve the DIYI website with lots of very helpful suggestions such as that all Iyengar centres be given access to the Calender to update it themselves listing their own events and classes.

It was also suggested that all Iyengar events in Ireland including the AGM should be on the website Calender or news section. At the moment people receive emails from several different sources which can lead to confusion and clashing of events.

There were suggestions for expanding the teachers page to include lists of classes so

that anyone new to Iyengar Yoga or anyone visiting Dublin could easily find a class in

their area just by visiting the Website. It was suggested that all teachers' emails could be listed with a hyperlink to their classes.

The setting up of a “Find a Class” tab was suggested and there were plenty of offers of help with the website.

Margaret Cashman suggested having a link to people selling Yoga equipment and to people who make props.

8. Resignation/Election of Committee: Since there were no nominations for the positions on the committee and the office holders were agreeable to serve again all were in favour and they were deemed elected.

9. AOB: Margaret Cashman proposed a vote of thanks and congratulations for all the work done to date and all agreed.

10. Date of next Meeting: Early January 2010.Date to be advised later.
